Petoskey author to sign copies of new children's book Friday

"Come, Journey to Bethlehem" is written in verse form, and with Lisa Loyd's watercolor illustrations, relates the biblical account of Mary and Joseph's journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem, and the birth of Jesus on that first Christmas night.
Hempstead is a retired Episcopal priest, and former rector of Emmanuel parish in Petoskey. He and his wife, Susanne, have been married 53 years. They have two married children and five grandchildren. During 50 years of ordained ministry, 36 in parish ministry, Hempstead wrote monthly parish newsletter articles and has been published in "Spitball," the literary baseball magazine; "Sharing," a journal of Christian healing; and "Voices From the Boyne," an anthology published by the Boyne City Writers' Circle.
Loyd retired from East Grand Rapids Public Schools and now resides in Petoskey with her husband, Ric. They have two daughters. "Come, Journey to Bethlehem" is Loyd's second illustrated work; her first was "The ABC's of Bay View."
Hempstead summarizes his book: "The beautiful, eternal message of Jesus Christ's birth, as envisioned in 'Come, Journey To Bethlehem' is, God loves you -- each and all."
