  1. Angelina Jolie's decision to get double mastectomy isn't unusual in Lehigh Valley

Kelly Vanek, a runner, cyclist and triathlete, was listening to sports talk radio in the car when the conversation shifted to Angelina Jolie.

  3. Orlando Fringe review: 'Piranha the Musical'

Imagine Orlando as the setting of crass TV cartoon "South Park" and you get the vibe of "Piranha the Musical." Joel Warren's original story is set in the City Beautiful and features much from the "South Park" playbook: big musical numbers, crudeness just for the fun of being crude, even celebrity parodies.

  7. Cannes 2013: Festival robberies echo past heists, real and on film

    By Mark Olsen
Two high-profile robberies at this year's Cannes Film Festival have attracted a lot of attention, but they're the hardly the first such heists (on screen, or off). First, a stash of Chopard jewelry reportedly valued at more than $1 million was taken...

  9. Orlando Fringe review: 'Macbeth'

The three weird sisters slither their way through Sisyphus Productions' stripped-down "Macbeth." Shakespeare's murderous tale of "vaulting ambition" is told in 90 minutes as quick scene follows quick scene. Creepy sound effects, amped-up acting and the pace put one in mind of Shakespeare adapted for the CW television network — an overall effect that has both pluses and minuses.

  11. Orlando Fringe review: 'Strangely Attractive'

To say that "Strangely Attractive" is a spoof on "My Three Sons" would be an insult to that sweet, silly show. I only wish I could offer some clue as to what this show really is about, other than a chance for a group of actors to show way, way more flesh than anybody but the twentysomething guy next to me really wants to see. (Yeah, it's that kinda Fringe show.)

  13. 'Star Trek Into Darkness' a worthy enterprise, critics say

It wouldn't be quite accurate to say that J.J. Abrams' 2009 "Star Trek" reboot boldly went where no man had gone before. After all, such familiar faces such as Capt. Kirk, Mr. Spock and Uhura were along for the ride (though played by new actors), as was...

  15. The case of the wasted winter, and now spring

I never could follow a "Perry Mason" plot. As a kid in the late 1950s I was too young and now, a half-century later, I guess I'm too old.
I never could follow a "Perry Mason" plot. As a kid in the late 1950s I was too young and now, a half-century later, I guess I'm too old. A vital piece of information has just been introduced but I was busy admiring Della's dress or wondering if Paul...

  17. August Wilson's words came straight from his soul

Stage and film legend James Earl Jones once said, "It's hard for an actor to go wrong if he's true to the words that August has written."
Stage and film legend James Earl Jones once said, "It's hard for an actor to go wrong if he's true to the words that August has written." As an actor and writer, I have found that statement to be true of only a few playwrights. There is usually at least...

  19. Charity events keep spring social season hot

Chicago socialites had a difficult decision to make Saturday, with three celebrity-hosted galas taking place at the same time around the city. But for the see-and-be-seen crowd, this was likely a good problem to have.

  21. The Fountain's 'Heart Song' gives voice to flamenco's depths

Two years ago Stephen Sachs began working on a play about the philosophy and practice of flamenco. He figured he had all the material he needed, having spent years in close proximity to flamenco dancers as the co-artistic director of the Fountain Theatre, home of the long-running performance series "Forever Flamenco!" But after further research, he realized that the Spanish art form intertwined deeply with certain existential preoccupations that also inhabited his writer's mind.
