Plenty of action in Classic

Twenty-eight teams and three days of boys’ prep soccer competition, constitute the 27th annual Marina Holiday Classic.

The tournament kicks off at 7:30 a.m. Friday. The 28 teams contending for the title are divided evenly into seven pool brackets. The tournament continues Saturday and culminates with the third-place and championship games at 1 p.m. Monday.

Host Marina, Huntington Beach, Ocean View and Fountain Valley, are local teams entered in the tournament.

Pool A: 7:30 a.m.: Los Alamitos vs. Ocean View, Cerritos vs. Garey; Noon: Garey vs. Ocean View; Cerritos vs. Los Alamitos.

Pool B: 7:30 a.m.: Anaheim vs. Lakewood, Dominguez vs. Westminster; Noon: Dominguez vs. Anaheim, Westminster vs. Lakewood.

Football

Six members of the Ocean View football team made the 2013 All-Golden West League Football Team.

First-team members were senior running back Danny Valencia and senior offensive lineman Evan Perzanowski. Second-team members included senior defensive lineman Andrew Bradbury, senior linebacker Tristan Wenschlag, and junior wide receivers Tyler Clay and Hector Calderon.

Valencia rushed 185 times for 1,215 yards and scored eight touchdowns in eight games. Clay was the top receiver for the Seahawks with 607 yards and seven touchdowns on 29 receptions in 10 games.
