LaBow’s summer full of success

Share

It’s been a busy, and successful, summer on the links for Lauren LaBow.

The Huntington Beach resident won three junior golf tournaments this summer while playing on the PGA Southern California Junior Tour. LaBow capped her title run with a first-place performance at the Newport Beach Summer Shootout at Newport Beach Golf Club Aug. 11.

The 13-year-old started the summer by winning her age division (girls’ 12-14) title at the Recreation Summer Championship July 14 at Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach. She also won her age division at the 24th annual Costa Mesa Championship .

“It’s been a fun summer,” said LaBow, a former junior club champion and current member of the Junior Golf Team at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach.

LaBow tied with Brianna Park of Mission Viejo for first place in the girls’ 12-14 age division at the Newport Beach Summer Shootout.

At the two-day Costa Mesa Championship Aug. 7-8 at Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club (Mesa Linda Course), LaBow shot a 76 and registered an eagle on the second day of the competition.

“It was the first time I’ve ever had an eagle,” she said. “It was pretty cool.”

In addition to her three tournament wins, LaBow placed second in her division at the Cleveland Golf/Srixon Championship June 17-18 at Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda.

She is ranked 13th in the Southern California PGA Junior Player of the Year points standings in the 12-14 age division.

“It’s really hard to win a tournament,” LaBow said. “When I won that first tournament at Recreation Park, I thought, maybe, there weren’t too many competitors. But then I won the Costa Mesa Championship and there were a lot of girls playing and it was pretty stiff competition.”

LaBow started the eighth-grade Monday at St. Bonaventure Catholic School in Huntington Beach, where she is serving as student body president for the 2013-14 school year.

She is a four-year member of the Huntington Beach (City) Junior Lifeguard Program, plays flag football in the Huntington Beach Friday Night Lights program, and will play in several weekend golf tournaments in September.
