Great expectations for BC

Share

When you look at the 2013 Brethren Christian High football roster, the tangibles are present for what could be a big season.

BC Coach Pat McInally shares those sentiments. It’d be hard not to, what with 17 returning starters back from last year’s six-win team that made the CIF Southern Section playoffs.

“If we stay healthy, I think we can be a great team,” McInally said. “We have a great group of talented players, many from a great JV team we had two years ago that was dominant.

“If our line plays well, we can do some big things this year.”

The Warriors, who went 6-5 last year, finished in second place in the Academy League, and reached the CIF-SS East Valley Division playoffs where they dropped a first-round game at Big Bear, could be explosive on offense. They favor the spread and the unit will be spearheaded by returning all-league and record-setting quarterback, senior Jack McInally, son of the head coach.

Last fall, the younger McInally threw for 2,271 yards and 32 touchdowns.

The offense also includes a slew of returning weapons in senior running backs Jared Fuga and Anthony Moore, and with Moore, senior Austin Gorrell and juniors Guy Demazeliere and Brandon Bryson, at receiver.

One of McInally’s concerns is the offensive front. The Warriors have had to reconstruct a line that was hit hard by graduation.

“If our line can come through, and I think it has come a long way during spring and summer ball, and again, if we stay healthy, then offensively we will be able to spread the ball around like we did last year, he said.”
