The USA Water Polo Men's Senior National Team, which includes Bret Bonanni of Huntington Beach, finished in fourth place at the FINA World Cup at Almaty, Kazakhstan. Team USA placed fourth after falling, 8-6, in the bronze medal game Sunday to Croatia.

Bonanni (Mater Dei High/Stanford) was the top scorer for the tournament with 13 goals. Bonanni scored twice during an 11-9 shootout win against Australia Aug. 22 that sent Team USA on to the semifinal round. In the semis, the U.S. dropped a 7-5 decision to Hungary.

Bonanni previously scored a game-high five goals in an 11-9 loss Aug. 21 to Serbia.

Team USA went 3-3 at the World Cup, scoring wins over South Africa (19-1), Montenegro (11-7) and Australia (11-9).

DeFalco, partner at Youth Games

TJ DeFalco of Huntington Beach High and teammate Louis Richard of Redondo Beach (Redondo Union High) completed preliminary Group F play last weekend at the second Youth Olympic Games at Nanjing, China.

DeFalco and Richard have played five matches in preliminary competition and posted a 1-4 record. In the pair's final preliminary match Aug. 22, DeFalco and Richard were defeated by Johannes Kratz/Moritz Pristauz-Telsnigg of Austria, 24-21, 21-17.

Nearly 4,000 athletes between the ages of 15 and 18 from more than 200 nations competed in 28 sports and 30 disciplines. The Games come to a close Thursday.

Youth swimming tryouts in H.B.

Riptide Aquatics, a competitive age-group swimming and water polo club based out of Ocean View High School pool in Huntington Beach, will hold an open tryout session Sept. 13 for competitive swimmers looking to join the club team.

NJB offers online registration

Huntington Beach National Junior Basketball currently is accepting online registration through Sept. 30.

The cost is $200 per player and online registration can be found at https://huntingtonbeach-njb.rsportz.com.

Huntington Beach NJB, a tradition since 1985, fields teams in grades K through eighth.

League playoffs games will be held at the end of the regular season, and the chapter will put together all-star teams that will compete during the all-star season.
