The Ocean View Little League Little League (12-year-old) All-Star team was one win away from moving forward in postseason play.

Also one win away from winning a Section 10 championship were the Ocean View 10/11 and 9/10 All-Star teams, each of which won its first two tournament games last weekend.

Little League All-Stars

District 62 champion Ocean View won its first two games at the four-team Section 10 tournament at Woodfield Park in Aliso Viejo and was the lone undefeated team as of Monday.

The Little League All-Stars met once-beaten Rancho Mission Viejo (District 68) Tuesday in the title series.

A win Tuesday would advance Ocean View to the Southern Sub-Section tournament, which starts Saturday in El Cajon. Rancho Mission Viejo needed to defeat Ocean View twice in order to win the Section 10 title and move on to El Cajon.

The score from Tuesday's game wasn't available at press time.

Ocean View and Rancho Mission Viejo met in a Section 10 tournament opener Saturday. Ocean View took the early lead (8-4 through three innings), fell behind but rallied late and came back to pull out a 12-11 win.

After giving up four runs in the top of the first, Ocean View rallied for five runs in the bottom half of the inning, which featured a home run to right-center field by Jag Burden. It was his "first-ever" home run, according to Ocean View Manager Vince Manzo.

"It was a definitely the highlight of the game," Manzo said. "Jag had never hit a home run, even in practice."

Rocco Peppi and Jake Vogel both hit home runs in the second inning to help Ocean View extend its lead. With the score tied in the final inning, Peppi drew a lead-off walk, advanced to third, and with two outs and teammate Sinjin Choi facing an 0-2 count, Peppi was able to score the winning run on a passed ball.

Ocean View played its second tournament game Sunday and took care of host Aliso Viejo (District 55), 10-4.

Again, the locals fell behind in the opening inning, this time by a 4-0 score, but again rallied to get the win. A three-run home run by Peppi drew made it a 4-3 game and a two-run triple by Jared Manzo put Ocean View in front (5-4) for good.

Choi added a two-run single, Burden an RBI-double and Noah Karliner delivered a two-run home run to complete Ocean View's scoring. Jared Manzo threw the first five innings and Zach Lyons pitched the sixth and "did a great job in closing," Vince Manzo said.

Ocean View grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning behind singles by AJ Valle and Luca Pantel and RBIs from Tristan Kennedy, Matthew Wilson and pitcher Cole Kaplan (five innings). Ladera Ranch scored its only run in the fourth on an RBI from Owen Curves, but Ocean View came back and used a double by Nick Shenkman and a RBI by Valle to score two more runs for a 5-1 lead.
