Briefs: US Open of Surfing starts July 20

The 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing is coming to the Huntington Beach Pier on July 20. In addition to surfing, the annual action sports event will include skateboarding and BMX competition, music and 100 interactive exhibits.

The contest runs through July 28 at the south side of the pier.

Youth football registration

Huntington Beach Jr. All-American Football and Cheer is still accepting registration for its 2013 fall season.

Team practices, which begin July 22, and home games are conducted at Huntington Beach High.

HBJAAF, whose teams go by the nickname, “Oilers,” is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the benefits of organized football and cheer to the children ages 5 to 14 of Huntington Beach. It is one of 28 Jr. All-American Football organizations located in Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside counties that are members of Orange County Junior All-American Football (OCJAAF).

Edison youth hoops camp registration open

Registration is open for the Edison Basketball Youth Camp which will run July 22-26 at the Edison gymnasium.

Participants will learn the game of basketball in a fun and positive atmosphere. The camp, co-sponsored by PCH Hoops, is in its 14th year.

The cost is $120 per camper (grades 3-8) and includes a complimentary basketball. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. daily during camp week and each individual session runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

Edison softball camp starts July 22

Edison High is offering summer softball camps that will run July 22-26 at the school’s varsity softball field.

Camp age groups, dates and costs, are as follows: Grades 3-5 (9 a.m.-noon, includes complimentary T-shirt and ball, $115); Grades 6-8 (noon-3 p.m., includes complimentary T-shirt and ball, $115); Incoming Freshmen-Grade 12 (9 a.m.-2 p.m., includes lunch and complimentary T-shirt, $250).

Incoming freshmen and returning prep players are required to have had a physical exam in order to participate in the high school camp.

Registration also will be taken at the door if camp space is available.

Soccer tournament in August

Strikers South Coast will put on the Strikers Cup 2013, a youth soccer tournament, Aug. 24-25 at field locations in Huntington Beach.

The Strikers Cup is a Cal South sanctioned Class 1 Tournament and is open to all United States Soccer Federation-affiliated teams divisions U9 through U19. USSF National Assn. Player passes also are excepted. Age groups are for the 2013-14 season.

Trophies will be given to teams that win division champions and individual medals will be presented to players on teams finishing in either first or second place.

The Huntington Beach Sports Complex is the host venue for the two-day event. High school field sites hosting games are Huntington Beach, Edison, Marina and Westminster. Games also will be played at other field sites in Huntington Beach.

Fountain Valley summer baseball camp open

The Fountain Valley High baseball program’s summer camp for incoming freshmen and eighth-grade students is now open at the school’s varsity baseball field.
