Huntington Valley rules

Huntington Valley put the finishing touches on a dominating run to the division championship on Saturday by shutting down Ocean View, 10-0.

The long ball went a long way for Huntington Valley: Miles Magana hit at three-run home run in the third inning, Nathan Goode followed Magana with a three-run shot in the fourth, and Nick Morlett hit a solo homer in the sixth.

Joshua Hahn pitched a complete game for Huntington Valley. He threw a two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts including a strikeout stretch of seven in a row.

“It was a total team contribution,” Huntington Valley Manager Dave Hahn said. “These kids came together and came through as a team. They were just so enthusiastic and really wanted to win.”

Hahn said several members of this year’s Huntington Valley Major All-Star team, were on the Huntington Valley 10/11 All-Star team that defeated Ocean View last year to win the 10/11 district title.

“Winning this year, making it back-to-back championships, is something special,” said Hahn who also managed the 2012 Huntington Valley 10/11 All-Star team.

In three games, five different Huntington Valley players hit at least one home run led by Jaedon Bartling who hit four. Huntington Valley hit three consecutive home runs in its tournament-opening, 13-0, win on June 24 over Costa Mesa National.

Joshua Hahn pitched two complete games and gave up five hits and two runs, and averaged 12 strikeouts per game.

Huntington Valley outscored its three opponents, 29-2, with two shutouts.

“Pitching, defense and timely hitting are always key in baseball,” Dave Hahn said. “Fortunately for us, we had all three working during the tournament. All of our players have been in Little League and travel ball together for several years now and it all came together in our final year in Little League.

“It was a great run. Right now, this team is firing on all cylinders.”

Huntington Valley takes its next step in postseason competition on Saturday when it starts play in the four-team, double-elimination Section 10 tournament. Huntington Valley will face the District 68 champion, Viejo of Mission Viejo, at 1 p.m. at Modjeska Park (Loara Little League host) in Anaheim.
