Alys Williams of Huntington Beach (Edison High/UCLA) has been named to the USA Water Polo Women's Senior National Team's 15-player roster for the Kirishi Cup tournament that got underway Tuesday at Kirishi, Russia.

Team USA opened the tournament Tuesday and defeated Hungary, 13-10. The U.S. came back Wednesday to face Russia and behind the four-goal scoring of Annika Dries (Laguna Beach High/Stanford), scored a 13-10 victory over the host team.

Team USA plays Italy Thursday, Spain Friday and closes out the tournament Saturday against The Netherlands.

Huntington Beach National Junior Basketball currently is accepting early-bird online registration.

The cost for the early-bird session, which runs through July 31, is $175. The cost during a second registration period, Aug. 1 through Sept. 30, is $200.

Huntington Beach NJB, a tradition since 1985, fields teams in grades K through eighth. League playoffs games will be held at the end of the regular season, and the chapter will put together All-Star teams that will compete during the All-Star season.

Marina baseball camp opens Monday

The second of two Marina Baseball Summer Camps, designed for local youth, starts Monday at the school at the Marina High baseball fields (15871 Springdale St., Huntington Beach). The camp runs from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and noon to 2 p.m. daily through July 18. The camps will focus on various fundamentals including hitting, fielding, pitching, mental approach to the game, and campers will also take part in various games.
