All-Stars action underway

The 2013 Little League District 62 All-Stars Tournament completed its first few days of action on Wednesday and several teams have emerged undefeated in the double-elimination event at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley.

In the Major All-Stars division through Tuesday, Ocean View has scored 27 runs in its first two games to open with a 2-0 record. Huntington Valley, which received a bye during opening-round play Saturday, scored a 13-0 victory in its opener Monday against Costa Mesa National.

Ocean View and Huntington Valley faced each other Wednesday. The score wasn’t available at press time.

In other division action through Tuesday, Ocean View was the lone undefeated team at 2-0 in the 10/11 division, OV and Seaview in the 9/10 division both were 2-0, and Ocean View and Robinwood each was 2-0 in the 8/9 division.

The Junior division championship series starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at Huntington Beach High. If necessary, a second game will be played at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Ocean View won the Intermediate (50-70) division championship on Sunday by defeating Westminster, 11-7. Ocean View will represent District 62 at the Sectional Tournament and opens against District 55 at 10 a.m. Saturday at Las Lomas Field No. 1 (Irvine Ranch Little League host) in Irvine.

The Ocean View Intermediate team is: Nathan Adams, Scott Lux, Matt Miltimore, Sean Moore, Kouji Oyama, Jason Roe, Xavier Salgado, Jayden Stout, Luc Toppen, Chandler Forth, Jared Tipton. Manager: Ric Stout. Coaches: Kevin Roe, Jason Toppen.

The double-elimination tournament will resume Monday in the Majors, 10/11 and 9/10 divisions. The championship series in the 10/11 division is Monday and Tuesday, and the series in the Majors, 9/10 and 8/9 divisions, are July 6-7.

9/10 All-Stars

Seaview 6, Huntington Valley 1: Seaview received a huge performance from Braeden Boyles who pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings against a very strong Huntington Valley team Tuesday.

As it did in its tournament opener on Saturday, Seaview jumped out to an early lead, gaining a 3-0 advantage following a couple walks and a two-run single by Jeremy Alcorn. Boyles got some help from his outfielders Luke Slavik and Sam Dater who made two, critical catches keeping the score at 3-0 going into the top of fifth.

Seaview closer Clay Kaneko relieved Boyles and got out of a bases-loaded jam with a key strikeout.

Seaview extended the lead to 6-1 after key RBI singles by Ryan Rivituso and Jackson Schnoor.

Seaview 14, Robinwood 5: Seaview used key hits from Jeremy Alcorn, Clay Kaneko and Jordan Bonaire through the first two innings to open up a 6-3 lead on Robinwood, then went on to pick up a victory in a division opener on Saturday.

The Seaview bats continued to stay hot with timely hits by Mikey Allen and Ryan Rivituso. On the mound, Seaview was led by starter Kevin Rood followed by Braeden Boyles. Jackson Schnoor came in and pitched a solid two innings to seal the victory.

8/9 All-Stars

Ocean View 10, Huntington Valley 0: AJ Hurtado threw a perfect game and Ocean View scored its second tournament victory by defeating Huntington Valley Tuesday. Hurtado struck out nine.

Ten runs in the first three innings allowed Ocean View to take command. A two-run double by Antonio Ventimiglia, an RBI single by Jack Rockefeller and a few defensive errors aided the Ocean View offense early.

Ocean View 15, Fountain Valley 0: Pitchers AJ Hurtado and Chad Lux combined on a no-hitter and Antonio Ventimiglia hit a three-run home run as Ocean View opened the tournament with a shutout victory.

Hurtado struck out nine in three innings and Lux struck out two in closing on the mound. The pair didn’t allow a walk.

Ocean View scored its 15 runs in the first three innings. Daniel Kotkosky and Cade Hart both singled and Ventimiglia homered to put Ocean View in front.

Ventimiglia finished with two hits and four RBIs. Jimmy Legg had an RBI double.
