Edison High baseball shortstop Brian Schales and Marina softball pitcher Tera Blanco both turned in outstanding 2014 seasons, and their athletic achievements were rewarded as both seniors were named the Most Valuable Player in Sunset League in their respective sport.

Schales, who was selected on the second day in the fourth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft Friday by the Miami Marlins, hit .396 and was a driving force for Edison which advanced to the quarterfinal round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Blanco who will attend and play at the University of Michigan next year, posted a 22-5 overall pitching record. She struck out 228 and had 10 shutout victories, and finished with an ERA of 1.14. Offensively, she hit .446, had a .769 slugging percentage, .622 on base percentage, had three home runs, walked 32 times and drove in 23 runs.
