Waves tryouts

The HB Waves girls’ basketball spring club team will hold open tryouts March 1 and March 8 for youth grades fourth through eighth. Grades are based on the current school year. Both tryout session runs from 6 to 7 p.m. and will be held at the Huntington Beach High gym (1905 Main St., Huntington Beach).

Team USA compete in Hungary

The USA Men’s Senior National Team, which includes Patrick Saunders and Bret Bonanni of Huntington Beach, completed play Sunday at the Volvo Cup in Budapest, Hungary. The three-day tournament also included teams National Teams from Hungary, Canada and Croatia.

Team USA, led by Head Coach Dejan Udovicic, dropped its opener, 21-11, to Hungary, played Canada to an 11-11 draw, and lost Sunday, 15-8, to Croatia. Bonanni scored a team-high in goals in all three matches, and finished the tournament with 10 goals. He scored three goals against both Hungary and Croatia, and four against Canada.
