The Sunset League girls' soccer season entered its second week Tuesday and the local teams posted a 1-1-1 record.

Marina was a 1-0 winner against Huntington Beach. Edison and Los Alamitos played to a 1-1 tie, and Fountain Valley was edged, 3-2, in overtime by Newport Harbor.

Marina (4-10-2, 1-1) posted the game-winning goal with three minutes left. Kayla Perry intercepted a pass, dribbled to beat a few defenders, and sent a shot into the upper left portion of the net.

Vikings Coach Sarah Harding said Emma Walker "came up strong in the second half," which included a huge reflex save off a Huntington corner kick.

Walker recorded seven saves.

"This was an intense match between two talented and passionate Huntington Beach teams with opportunities from both sides," Harding said. "We are fortunate and happy with the results as well as the play throughout the game."

Marina was able to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Los Alamitos in a Jan. 3 league opener.

Mackenzie Cerda scored a second-half goal and Alison Jahansouz had four saves for Edison in its 1-1 standstill with host Los Alamitos.

Madison Gomez headed a ball in on a cross from Dakota Griggs in the first half, and Addie Espinoza scored on a pass from Kasey Reeves in the second half, to tie the score against Newport Harbor. The Sailors scored in the first half of overtime and went on to take a 3-2 win.

Tuesday's 3-2 loss was the second in league play for the Barons who on Jan. 3 fell by that score to Huntington Beach. Lindsey Archer, Lana Bermel and Kassidy Simpkins scored goals and Bermel, Dottie Rhotten and Carolyn Archer had assists for the Oilers (6-3-3). Kate Hart and Jane Potter both had three saves.

Gomez scored off a cross from Reeves, and Espinoza scored in the second half from the Barons. Alison Marlow had five saves.

Huntington Coach Raul Ruiz called his team's performance "outstanding with great tactical team discipline."

Ocean View played its Golden West League opener Tuesday and played Santa Ana to a 2-2 tie. David Deaton said the tie score was the "first" with the Saints in his six years as head coach of the Seahawks.

Jade Kratoval and Liliana Martinez scored goals, Casey Dooley had an assist, and Emma Malsy registered 16 saves for Ocean View, which is 5-5-1 overall.

Boys' Soccer

Edison: The Chargers went 1-0-1 during the first week of Sunset League competition. They dropped their opener, 1-0 on Jan. 2, to Huntington Beach, and played Newport Harbor to a 1-1 tie Friday.

Hunter Kelley scored on a header off a free kick with the assist going to Jeff Wood in Edison's tie game against Newport Harbor.

"After a good preseason this is not the start to league we were looking for," said Edison Coach Charlie Breneman, whose team was 8-5-3 overall after the two league games. "It is still early and hopefully we can turn things around this week and get some good results."

Fountain Valley: The Barons got their Sunset League season off to a successful start by winning their first two matches and shared first place with Los Alamitos.
