Blue Crushers win division

The Blue Crushers, a girls’ under-10 soccer team from AYSO Region 55 (Huntington Beach), won its division last weekend in the 22-team Area K tournament.

The team will represent Area K in the upcoming Sectional Southern California Championship in February.

The Blue Crushers capped a 4-0 tournament run by defeating The Destroyers of Region 5 (Fountain Valley), 4-1, in the tournament final. Annika Wiederin scored a hat trick in the opening half, which ended with the Blue Crushers holding a 3-0 advantage. Sophia Harmon scored late in the third quarter to put the lead at 4-1.

The Blue Crushers started the tournament with a 6-1 victory over Region 517 (Santa Ana). Nicole Serrano scored a hat trick in the first 12 minutes of the game, and finished with four goals. Skyler McDuff and Vanessa Tapia each scored once.

In their second game, the Blue Crushers defeated Region 143 (Huntington Beach/Westminster), 4-1. Lindsay Rule scored twice in the second quarter and Tapia and Serrano both scored in the second half. In their third outing, the Blue Crushers scored a 4-0 shutout of Region 177 (Belmont Shores). Goals were scored in the first half by Serrano, Rule, and Tapia, and Grace Anderegg scored in the second half.

Goalie Midori Chaney-Russell allowed just two goals in four games.

The Blue Crushers are coached by Mark Rule and Dave Weiderin. The players are: Lindsay Rule, Annika Wiederin, Vanessa Tapia, Sophia Harmon, Amanda Khoury, Skyler McDuff, Nicole Serrano, Midori Chaney-Russell and Grace Anderegg.
