Ocean View High got its own Hawk Holiday Classic girls' basketball tournament off to a great start Monday by rolling to a 56-26 victory over Oxford Academy of Cypress.

The Seahawks, who improved to 5-1, raced to a 15-1 lead after one quarter. Alexxas Laun scored a game-high 15 points and Deja Duke scored 11.

Marina played its first game Tuesday at the Hawk Holiday Classic and the Vikings were edged, 55-48, by Tesoro. Natasha Mangham had 11 points and 11 rebounds, Melissa Lindquist scored eight points to go along with six steals and four assists, and Madison Yutkins scored nine points for the Vikings who slipped to 5-2.

Tesoro wing Lea Wodach led all scorers with 27 points.

"Our team played hard, and I think this game could have gone either way," Marina Coach Carol Osbrink said. "Wodach had 27 points, and we were just not able to contain her."

The Hawk Holiday Classic continues Thursday and Friday with games starting at 3 p.m. both days. Championship and consolation bracket games are Saturday starting at 8 a.m. The championship game is set for 8:30 p.m.

Brethren Christian: The Warriors (0-2) started play Monday at the Spartan Classic at Orangewood Academy and were defeated, 40-26, by Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana. Senior Annie Huie led BC in scoring with 11 points. Senior Abby Luce went four for four from the free-throw line and finished with six points.

Fountain Valley: The Barons fell to 0-2 in the Santa Ana Elks Tournament Tuesday after Cypress rallied in the second half to pull out a 50-44 victory at Segerstrom High. Marisa Teng led the Barons in scoring with 12 points.

Fountain Valley was coming off a fourth-place finish at its own Hoop Challenge. In a battle for third place Saturday, they fell, 55-51, to Villa Park. Jasmine Matar made the all-tournament team for the Barons.

Huntington Beach: The Oilers finished in the runner-up spot at the Barons Hoop Challenge at Fountain Valley. In the tournament final, Huntington lost, 66-33, to Orange Lutheran. Freshman Reanne Wang hit three three-point shots en route to 11 points for Huntington. The Oilers' Jill Nakaso made the all-tourney team.

"I am very pleased with the results because we are still missing two players to injuries," Huntington Coach Russ McClurg said. "We are a very young team so the future looks bright."
