Briefs: Dwyer wins titles

The Dwyer Middle School eighth-grade girls’ basketball team turned in two perfect runs to end its 2012 season as a double winner. The Jr. Oilers went 6-0 and won the California Athletic League regular-season title, then won two playoff games to take the league’s postseason tournament title.

The Dwyer eighth-grade girls’ basketball team is: Lauren Aldana, Stephanie Cendro, Berkely Flicker, Madison Germano, Helen Harrod, Mira Nagle, Cami Sanchez, Frankie Sanchez, Paula Tanasescu, Riley Wester and Danielle Wright. The team is coached by Lynn Arnold, Stacy Wood and Teresa Ward.

Polo club team wins in tourney play

The Huntington Beach Water Polo Club’s 10- and 14-and-under boys’ teams went undefeated and captured first place in their respective divisions at the 51st annual SPA Age Group Championships, and the Evan Cousineau Cup.

Garrity named Big Sky co-player of week

Dylan Garrity, a sophomore point guard at Sacramento State who starred at Edison High, was named the Big Sky Conference’s Men’s Basketball co-Player of the Week.

Garrity averaged 20 points and six assists in the Hornets’ nonconference wins against Utah (74-71) and Cal St. Bakersfield (85-67). Garrity scored a game-high 19 points and scored the go-ahead basket at Utah, and hit a career-best 21 points with seven assists in a home win over Bakersfield.

Garrity, who received the league honor for the first time in his career, shared the award with guard DeWayne Russell of Northern Arizona. Garrity was named 2011-12 Big Sky Freshman of the Year.

Little League registration is Dec. 6

Westminster Little League, which serves Westminster, northwest Huntington Beach, and Midway City and is part of Little League District 62, will hold a registration session for the 2013 season on Dec. 6 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) at Johnson Middle School in Westminster (13603 Edwards. St.).

Online registration also is available at https://www.westminsterlittleleague.org.

The Westminster Little League boundary in northwest Huntington Beach is north of McFadden Avenue, between Bolsa Chica and Magnolia streets.
