Team notes: The Warriors, without any returning starters from last year’s playoff team, are starting from scratch. The team last year won the Max Preps Holiday Classic in Palm Springs, and finished third at the Orangewood Academy tournament. The Warriors are entered in both tournaments next month (December). BC also will add two transfer students to its roster in February.

Coach’s outlook: “This is the ultimate example of a rebuilding year, if there ever was one,” Wallace said. “We’ve lost our first eight players from last year’s depth chart.”

Season opener: Monday vs. Tarbut V’Torah.

Huntington Beach Oilers

League: Sunset

Head coach: Russ McClurg (10th year, 177-79)

Returning starters: Paola Roa (PG, all-league, All-CIF, Jr.); Jill Nakaso (F, second-team all-league, Sr.); Stephanie Louie (G, second-team all-league, Jr.).

The roster: Anna Bullock (Fr.); Samantha Gray (Fr.); Caitlyn Nojiri (Fr.); Morgan Potter (Soph.); Kaitlyn Rodriguez (Soph.); Lisa Roa (Sr.); Jenni Rulon (Jr.); Emily Vaught (Sr.).

Team notes: The Oilers turned in an amazing season last year, one that took them to Anaheim Arena and a spot in the CIF Southern Section Division 1-A title game. It was the program’s first title-game appearance since 1978. Three starters are back from a squad that shared the 2012 Sunset League title with Edison. The Oilers must fill the void created by graduated All-CIF players (school scoring and three-pointers made leader Kelsey Minato, Maya Kennedy) who have taken their games to the next level. The Oilers have been hit early by injury. McClurg said Paola Roa suffered a “severe” ankle sprain and will not play the first part of the season, and that Gray, a projected starter, suffered an ACL injury during the summer. Pau McClurg predicted the 2013 Sunset race to be the “most competitive in years.”

Coach’s outlook: “I think we will be very competitive in league,” McClurg said. “I have four freshman playing varsity which makes us very young. I have a great group of girls and I am excited about the future and continuing the Huntington Beach tradition.”

Season opener: Monday, 3 p.m., vs. Schurr, Barons Hoops Challenge.
