Gananch wins regional crown, set to compete in playoffs

Gananch, a girls’ Under-14 team from AYSO Region 55 (Huntington Beach), finished first in region 55 play with a 12-1 record. Led by coaches Kirk Apardian and Mike Hammock, the team scored 26 goals and allowed just five and won the Region 55 playoffs with four consecutive wins, including an exciting final game that was decided by penalty kicks.

Gananch will compete in the Area K playoffs Dec. 4-11.

Team members are: Krista Apardian, Darlena Cardenas, Annalie Danner, Eliz Ghazarian, Thalia Ghazarian, Taylor Gottschalk, Caroleena Hammock, Gabriella Hammock, Sarah Heesacker, Alison Marlow, Gabrielle McCormick, Kayli Minear, Maria Steadmon and Tania Urquidez.

Boys’ Water Polo

Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt, a Huntington Beach resident, was part of the Orange County Water Polo Club’s boys’ 12-and-under team that won its division at the USA Water Polo Southern Pacific Championships on Nov. 14 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine.

OC Water Polo went 5-0 in the tournament and outscored its opponents, 82-15. The 12U team defeated Northwood of Irvine, 9-7, in the final.
