Edison’s Witherby headed to Oregon State

The Oregon State University gymnastics program received National Letters of Intent from a pair of highly recruited gymnasts Nov. 10, including Cerise Witherby of Huntington Beach. Also in the Beavers’ 2011 recruiting class is Chelsea Tang of Eugene, Ore.

Witherby attends Edison High and trains with Wildfire Gymnastics. She finished third in the all-around at the 2010 Junior Olympics National Championships and made the J.O National Team. She also finished third on beam and fourth on vault at the national championship meet.

Oregon State launches its season today with its annual Orange & Black Exhibition.

“We are excited to announce the additions of Chelsea and Cerise to the Oregon State gymnastics program,” Chaplin said in a statement. “They are talented gymnasts, excellent students and wonderful young women. They have had tremendous success academically and competing at the Junior Olympic level. We are confident they have the ability and drive to continue the gymnastics team’s pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.”

Huntington Valley LL signups are Saturday

Huntington Valley Little League will hold in-person registration for its 2011 season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and again Dec. 11 at league fields, 9191 Pioneer Ave., Huntington Beach.

Parents need to bring an original birth certificate for children they register along with three different, original proof documents showing proof of residency and registration fees. For more information or to register online, visit https://www.HVLL.org.

Ocean View LL final registration is Nov. 30

Ocean View Little League will hold a late registration session from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30 at Murdy Park Recreational Center, 7000 Norma Drive, Huntington Beach. Signups will be taken for the following divisions: Wee Ball (age 4), T-Ball (ages 5-6), Little League (ages 6-12) and Juniors (ages 12-14).

Dates set for Lifeletics Baseball clinics

Lifeletics Baseball is offering two upcoming Group Skills Clinics. The Thanksgiving Position Skills Clinic is Nov. 25 and allows participants the chance to choose their position and work through a variety of advanced training schemes. The Winter Camp, set for Dec. 20, is a two-week camp for youth ages 5 to 13. The cost is $249 per camper. For information on all clinics, call (714) 843-1989.
