Rustlers down Pirates, take victory bell

Golden West College freshman quarterback Raymond Huizar threw five touchdowns passes to power the Rustlers to a 33-17 victory Saturday against rival Orange Coast College in an East Division game at OCC’s LeBard Stadium in Costa Mesa.

Huizar, who prepped at Pacifica High, completed 13 of 20 passes for 217 yards as Golden West won in the series for the first time since 2006 and took home the victory bell trophy that goes to the winner of the annual showdown. Huizar threw three touchdown passes to Aldodius Colquitt, the go-ahead score to Peter Adams and a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Chris Spencer.

The Rustlers trailed, 7-0, after the first quarter and 10-6 at the half in their homecoming game.

Golden West, which improved to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in East Division play, now leads the all-time series, 21-20-2. The Rustlers close out their conference and regular season Saturday hosting College of the Desert (4-5, 2-2) at 7 p.m. at LeBard Stadium.

Former Oiler Payetta honored

Pepperdine sophomore forward Callie Payetta has been honored as the West Coast Conference’s Player of the Week for women’s soccer after her two-goal, one-assist performance in the Waves’ 3-2 win Saturday against 14th-ranked Santa Clara. The former Huntington Beach High standout scored the first goal of the game and the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 75th minute. It was the first mutli-goal game of Payetta’s career. In her two seasons at Pepperdine, she has seven goals, two assists and 16 points.

“Callie played a great game, just an excellent game,” Pepperdine Coach Tim Ward said in a release. “She really changed the game when she came in. Her first goal was one of the best goals we scored all season.”

Pepperdine ended its season with a 9-6-5 record and in a tie for fifth place in the West Coast Conference (2-3-2). The Waves had a 3-3-2 mark against eight foes that made the NCAA Tournament field.

Youth baseball clinic starts Monday

Lifeletics Baseball is offering three dates for its new Group Skills Clinics. The Beginning Baseball Session II Clinic, an introductory program for youth ages 4 to 7, starts Monday.

The Thanksgiving Position Skills Clinic is Nov. 25 and allows participants the chance to choose their position and work through a variety of advanced training schemes. The Winter Camp, set for Dec. 20, is a two-week camp for youth ages 5 to 13. The cost is $249 per camper. For information on all clinics, call (714) 843-1989.

FVLL registration is Wednesday

Fountain Valley Little League will holds its next registration session for its spring season from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lamppost Pizza in Fountain Valley, 10130 Warner Ave.(at Warner Ave. and Brookhurst St.). Players who register before Dec. 31 receive a $5 discount.

HVLL signups are Nov. 20

Huntington Valley Little League will hold in-person registration for its 2011 season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 20 and Dec. 11 at league fields, 9191 Pioneer Ave., Huntington Beach.

OVLL to hold final signup Nov. 30

Ocean View Little League will hold a late registration session from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30 at Murdy Park Recreational Center, 7000 Norma Drive, Huntington Beach. Signups will be taken for the following divisions: Wee Ball (age 4), T-Ball (ages 5-6), Little League (ages 6-12) and Juniors (ages 12-14).
