Briefs: Hoops showcase to be played at Ocean View

Ocean View High will play host to the 2012 Coaches for a Cause basketball extravaganza on Nov. 24 at the school’s gymnasium. The day features nine prep matchups including games involving local schools Ocean View, Fountain Valley and Liberty Christian. Proceeds from the event benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The game schedule is as follows:

Girls’ basketball: 8 a.m.: Liberty Christian vs. Oxford Academy; 11 a.m.: Ocean View vs. La Quinta/Westminster.

Boys’ basketball: 9:30 a.m.: Liberty Christian vs. Oxford Academy; 12:30 p.m.: Magnolia vs. Calvary Chapel; 2 p.m.: Fountain Valley vs. La Habra; 3:30 p.m.: Villa Park vs. Roosevelt; 5 p.m.: Troy vs. Capistrano Valley; 6:30 p.m.: Westminster vs. Mission Viejo; 8 p.m.: Ocean View vs. Dana Hills.

Little League registration open

Westminster Little League, which serves Westminster, northwest Huntington Beach, and Midway City and is part of Little League District 62, is holding walk-in registration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Middle School in Westminster (13603 Edwards. St.). Walk-in registration at the school also will be held Nov. 18 (11 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Dec. 6 (6:30-8:30 p.m.). Tryouts begin in January 2013.

The Westminster Little League boundary in northwest Huntington Beach is north of McFadden Avenue, between Bolsa Chica and Magnolia streets.
