Green Chargers 8, High Desert 6: Huntington (7-0) kept its perfect season in tact by winning a defensive battle in overtime from the Tornadoes.

The teams were scoreless through regulation play and headed to the California Tie Breaker where each team gets the ball at the opponent’s 10-yard line and has four downs to score. Huntington held possession first and on second down, Daniel Serrano scored on a 10-yard run. Chase Ault split the uprights on the two-point kick to put the Chargers up, 8-0.

On the overtime possession for High Desert, one of the top two teams in the Mt. Baldy Conference, the Tornadoes converted on a fourth-and-inches run from inside the one to score and pull to within 8-6. The Green Chargers got the win when Shaun Colamonico tipped the two-point conversion attempt, which was no good.

In addition to his tip on the extra-point attempt, Colamonico had an interception that he nearly returned for a touchdown. Karson Ayres and Dillon Alcantara also turned in key defensive stops.

The division lead is on the line Saturday when the Green Chargers host the 7-0 Saddleback Valley Wolverines at 10 a.m.
