Lil’ Sluggers program offered to youth

Lifeletics Baseball Instruction in Huntington Beach is offering the Lil’ Sluggers Beginning Baseball Workout for local youth ages 4 to 7. The session begins Monday.

The five-week training program runs through Nov. 1 and is designed as introductory instruction to build fundamentals. The cost is $99 per player for five workouts. The Lifeletics training facility is at 16702 Burke Lane, Huntington Beach. For more information, call (714) 843-1989.

Seahawks crack football poll

For the first time this season, the Ocean View High football team is ranked in the CIF Southern Section Southern Division football poll. The Seahawks moved into the No. 10 spot following a 36-16 victory Friday against Costa Mesa. The poll is headed by Santa Ana Valley, followed by Garden Grove, Loara, Santiago/Garden Grove, Segerstrom, Anaheim, Godinez, Beckman, Corona del Mar and Ocean View.

Edison slipped from fifth to seventh in the Pac-5 Division football poll after falling, 16-9, Friday to No. 2 Servite. Mission Viejo again heads the poll, followed by Servite, Lakewood, Bishop Amat, Newport Harbor, Alemany, Edison, Los Alamitos, Santa Margarita and Long Beach Poly.

In girls’ volleyball, Edison is ranked ninth in Division 1-AA. Topping the poll is Harvard-Westlake, followed by Long Beach Poly, Mira Costa, Los Alamitos, Redondo Union, Lakewood, Santa Barbara, Newport Harbor, Edison and Orange Lutheran.

In boys’ cross-country, Marina is again No. 7 in the Division 1 poll. Leading the poll is Arcadia, followed by Dana Hills, Trabuco Hills, Rancho Cucamonga, El Toro, Great Oak, Marina, Corona, M.L. King, Redlands East Valley, California, Yucaipa and Capo Valley and Troy tied for the No. 13 spot.

In girls’ cross-country, Edison is No. 10 in Division 2. Redondo Union heads the poll, followed by Saugus, Foothill, Canyon/Anaheim, Mira Costa, Sultana, Ayala, Colony, Esperanza, Edison, Thousand Oaks, Serrano and Royal.

Distance Derby is Oct. 23

The 56th annual Distance Derby, the oldest race in Orange County, will be held Oct. 23 at Pier Plaza. The 10-mile run starts at 7 a.m. The five-mile run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Surf Kids Fun Run at 10 a.m.

The event benefits Project Self Sufficiency. Registration will be accepted the morning of the race starting at 6 a.m. For more information, call the Huntington Beach Community Services Department at (714) 536-5486.

Youth water polo registration open

Fall registration is open for Huntington Beach Water Polo Club. The club is available to beginning- to- advanced players and divisions are as follows: 10-and-Under Coed; 12U Girls, 12U Boys, 14U Girls, 14U Boys, 16U Girls, 16U Boys, 18U Girls and 18U Boys.
