Several locals ranked in CIF

The CIF Southern Section office released preseason polls for girls’ volleyball and boys’ water polo on Tuesday, and several local teams were ranked.

In girls’ volleyball, Edison — which last week won the championship at the Ann Kang Invitational tournament in Oahu, Hawaii — begins the 2011 season with a No. 4 ranking in Division 1-AA. Huntington Beach was among six schools listed as “others” receiving votes, but that just missed making the top 10.

In the Division 4-AA poll, Ocean View is ranked second behind defending CIF champion St. Margaret’s. Brethren Christian, which last year lost in the CIF finals to St. Margaret’s, comes in at No. 7.

In boys’ water polo, Huntington Beach is ranked fourth in a Division 1 poll headed by Mater Dei. Ocean View also earned a No. 4 ranking in Division 7 in a poll led by Nogales.
