Robinwood on the verge of another title

Share

Throughout the postseason, the Robinwood Little League 9/10 All-Star team has had little resistance.

During District 62 tournament play, Robinwood faced a stiff challenge from Ocean View in the first game of the champions series July 2, but went on to win the title. The following week, Robinwood routed all comers to claim the Section 10 title. This week, the locals are eyeing another crown in Riverside.

Heading into Wednesday, Robinwood was one win away from capturing the 9/10 Baseball Sub-Division III South tournament. Three more impressive victories has kept Robinwood undefeated in the postseason. Robinwood played once-beaten Rancho San Diego on Wednesday. A win gives Robinwood the South title. A win by Rancho San Diego would force a final game Thursday.

The South winner advances to face the Sub-Division III North winner in the best-of-three 9-10 Baseball Division III State tournament starting Saturday in Temple City.

The Division III State tournament is the final All-Star tournament of the postseason for the 9/10 division.

Robinwood opened Sub-Division III South play Saturday against Deer Canyon, and scored a 13-2 victory. Andrew Sojka went three for three with a home run and Jake Vogel, Caden Kendle, Rocco Peppi and Zeke Franco each had two hits. Vogel also walked twice and scored four runs.

Robinwood returned Sunday to rout Corona National, 17-1. Evan Manzo went three for four with a pair of doubles, Vogel homered and singled, Ryan Gregory went two for two, and Shane Stafford had a hit and RBI and scored twice.

On Monday, Robinwood turned back Rancho San Diego, 9-5. Vogel started the game with a lead-off home run and finished three for five. Kendle also went three for five, Manzo went three for four, and Christian Hill two for two.

In 10 postseason games through Tuesday, Robinwood had outscored the opposition, 113-14.

“These boys have exceeded all of our expectations,” Robinwood coach Geoff Kendle said. “They play with heart and passion rarely seen in 9-10 year-old boys. Whether in the starting lineup or coming off the bench, there are no holes on this team.”
