Ocean View opens play tonight in American Legion tournament

Ocean View, coached by Seahawks baseball Coach Shane Borowski, opens play today in the American Legion tournament at Glover Stadium in Anaheim.

The Seahawks will take on Mission Viejo at 7 p.m. The tournament begins with a 4 p.m. matchup between Valencia and Capo Valley.

The Orange County American Legion summer league is divided into a North and South division. Borowski said that at the conclusion of the summer league schedule, two teams from each division advance to the postseason tournament. Ocean View and Valencia qualified from the North.

The double-elimination tournament continues Friday at 4 and 7 p.m., and at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The tournament winner advances to next week’s American Legion Area tournament in Upland.

Golden West College offers swim lessons

Golden West College is offering one of the most comprehensive swim lesson programs in the county. The third of four sessions begins Monday at the Golden West College pool. Sessions run between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday of each week. The cost is $50 per child per 10-day session. The remaining summer sessions are: Session 3, Monday through July 29; Session 4, Aug. 2-12. Registration can be taken at the pool deck.

Next Lifeletics baseball camp begins Monday

The Lifeletics Summer Baseball Camp, a five-day workout involving elite instruction from professional coaches, begins its second camp session Monday at Wardlow Park, home of Huntington Valley Little League, in Huntington Beach. The camp runs through July 31. Future academy sessions at Wardlow Park are July 26-30 and Aug. 2-6. Lebard Park, home of Seaview Little League, will host the Aug. 16-20 and Aug. 23-27 academy sessions. All academy sessions are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Morning stations will blend individual instruction with station-to-station work (pitching, hitting, fielding, outfield, repetitions), with each athlete receiving small-group private instruction in each station. After a short break, the itinerary continues with quick-hitting, high-energy station instruction in fundamental areas such as rundowns, cuts/relays, team defense, skills, baseball athleticism and swing repetition. The Summer Academy, now in its 10th year, also involves an Olympic-style competition as well as game competition and position-specific training. H.B. Flag Football still taking registration

Huntington Beach Youth Flag Football’s 2010 fall registration still has limited openings for its Kindergarten, 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 grade divisions. The 7/8 grade division is sold out. The cost per player is $165 and the fee includes a team jersey, flags and a guaranteed minimum nine-game schedule. All games are a six-on-six format and will be played under the lights on Friday nights at Marina High School beginning with opening day on Sept. 10.
