Area club team wins national title in Dallas

Two Huntington Beach Club boys’ volleyball teams, 15Adams and 18Tyler, competed last weekend at the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships at Dallas.

15Adam won the gold medal in its division Friday by defeating Coastal Mizuno (Old Dominion) in the final, 25-15, 25-21. Four HBC players were named to the division’s all-tournament team: TJ Defalco, Kimball Leituala, Ben Vaught and Joshua Tuaniga was named tournament MVP.

The HBC 15’s team is: Defalco, Leituala, Vaught, Tuaniga, Andrew Shay, Jordan Molina, Alek Gilbreath, Blake Diamond, Kurt Ackerman, Lucas Devries, Wellington Afusia, Blake Markland, Alexander Wolf. Head coach: Adam Cutrell. Assistant coaches: Robert Morehouse, Tyler Hildebrand.

Defalco is a resident of Huntington Beach. Ackerman, Devries, Diamond, Gilbreath, Vaught and Wolf attend Huntington Beach High, and Shay attends Marina.

18Tyler finished in fourth in the 18-Open division. Juniors Andrew Tenbrink, Zachary Gates and Matthew Butler of Huntington Beach High, Madisen Hayden of Servite (Class of 2012), and juniors Bryce Yould and Doug Hamann of Dana Hills led he team. Both Gates and Butler were selected to the all-tournament team.

The Junior National Championships started July 1 and concluded Sunday at the Dallas Convention Center. The tournament drew 394 youth club volleyball teams from across the nation. Competition was held in divisions 12-and-Under through 18U.

Little League Baseball

Several Little League District 62 All-Star tournament champions begin the next step in the 2012 postseason by entering Section 10 tournament play Saturday. Another District 62 champ, Ocean View’s 8/9 All-Stars, started Section 10 play last weekend.

8/9 Division All-Stars: Ocean View stayed alive in the Section 10 tournament at Woodfield Park in Aliso Viejo on Monday by routing Aliso Viejo (District 55), 11-1, in a game called by the mercy rule after four innings. Ocean View scored its final seven runs in the fourth inning.

Ocean View compiled 10 hits, led by Jake D’Amico who went two for three with a double and RBI and scored twice.

Ocean View opened tourney play Saturday and lost, 5-3, to District 68.

The Ocean View 8/9 All-Stars are: Micah Blake, Ryan Carles, Nick Dagarin, Jake D’Amico, Chance Dimarco, Tristan Kennedy, Nicholas Madole, Kai Marden, Lucas Pantel, AJ Valle, Owen Wessel, Thomas Williams, Matthew Wilson. Manager: Scott Pantel. Coaches: Lance D’Amico, Ken Marden.

9/10 Division All-Stars: Robinwood launches Section 10 Tournament play at 1 p.m. Saturday against the District 46 champion at Sport Athletic Park in Mission Viejo. The winner moves on to a 3 p.m. game Sunday; the loser plays an elimination game at noon Sunday.

The Robinwood 9/10 All-Stars are: Andrew Baldwin, Bradley Coots, Ezekiel Franco, Scott Fujita, Brayden Gratzer, Ryan Gregory, Christian Hill, Caden Kendle, Evan Manzo, Rocco Peppi, Andrew Sojka, Shane Stafford, Jacob Vogel. Manger: Spike Sojka. Coaches: Geoff Kendel, Steve Stafford.

10/11 Division All-Stars: Huntington Valley opens Section 10 play against the District 46 champion at 2 p.m. Saturday in Anaheim (Loara Little League host). The winner advances to play at 1 p.m. Sunday; the loser plays at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Huntington Valley 10/11 All-Stars are: Buzz Baillie, Jaedon Bartling, Will Gleason, Nathan Goode, Joshua Hahn, Miles Magana, Ben McGovern, Will Miller, Michael Muranaka, Ryan Pauley, Cade Rosenkranz, Dakota Sumner. Manager: Dave Hahn. Coaches: Carl Goode, Tim Rosenkranz.

Major Division All-Stars: Huntington Valley starts Section 10 tournament play at 4 p.m. Saturday against the District 68 champion at Woodfield Park (Field 4) in Aliso Viejo. The winner advances to play at 4 p.m. Sunday at Field 4; the loser will play an elimination game at 4:30 p.m. at Field 6.

The Huntington Valley Little League All-Stars are: Jake Adams, Lane Adams, Derek Cleland, Luke Glascoe, Chase Hanson, Austin Heberden, Ethan Kemp, Michael Marquez, Nick Morlett, Will Morton, Werner Reither, Brian Rodriguez. Manager: Scott Glascoe. Coaches: Jacob “Jake” Adams, Tim Hanson.

Junior All-Stars: Fountain Valley won the District 62 title July 5 by defeating Ocean View, 6-4, at Ocean View High. Fountain Valley advances to face the District 46 champion at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Section 10 tournament at Ocean View High. By winning both the Tournament of Champions and All-Star tournaments, the Junior All-Stars became the first team from FVLL since 2003 to win a district title.

The Fountain Valley Junior All-Stars are: Kyle Adams, Steven Eldridge, Conrad Frick, Garret Gilmore, Benjamin Hill, Jonathan Holbrook, Timmy Knowles, Matthew Lewis, Azael Peralta, Aaron Santana, Drake Sueda, Shea Sueda. Manager: Mike Romine. Coaches: Scott Bishop, Rich Romine.
