Wide Open Tour coming to town

The Corona Light Wide Open Tour is coming to the Huntington Beach Pier this weekend. The tournament, played Saturday and Sunday, will reinstate traditional beach. More than 400 beach volleyball players are expected to compete in up to 14 different divisions. The event features draws for two-person teams in men’s, women’s and coed divisions. Among the divisions that will be played are: Men’s Open, AA, A, B and Novice; Women’s Open, AA, A and Novice; Men’s Masters (45+); Women’s Masters (40+) and Co-ed Open and Recreational.

Entry fee for the Corona Light Wide Open is $100 per team in the Open divisions, $100 per team in the four-person divisions and $60 per team for all other divisions. tington Beach is the fourth stop of the nine Corona Light Wide Open events that are official qualifying tournaments for the 2010 U.S. Open of Beach Volleyball. Registration for the Huntington Beach tournament is available online at https://www.CoronaLightWideOpen.com. Online entry is available until 4 p.m. Friday. On-site entries will be accepted based on available openings in a specific division.

Golden West College offers swim lessons

Golden West College is again offering one of the most comprehensive swim lesson programs in the county. A total of four sessions will be held between now and Aug. 12, with each session lasting two weeks. The sessions will run between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The cost is $50 per child, per session. Below are the session dates:

• Session 1: June 21-July 1

• Session 2: July 6-15

• Session 3: July 19-29

• Session 4: Aug. 2-12

Moose golf tourney set

The Fountain Valley Football Boosters and the Michael Musso Memorial host the fifth annual Moose Invitational Golf Tournament on Monday at Mile Square Golf Course.

All proceeds benefit the Fountain Valley High football program and the Michael Musso Memorial Fund.

The cost is $150 per person. Michael Musso, a 2004 graduate of Fountain Valley High, died in a July 2005 car accident. Through the Moose Invitational fundraiser, a scholarship is given to a four-year Baron football player each year.

Edison baseball camp starts

The Edison High baseball program opens camp Monday for returning and new players who want to try out for the program. The camp runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through July 23. The cost is $175 per player. A second camp, for players ages six through 13, will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 6, 8, 13 an 15. The cost is $125 per player. Both camps will be held at the Edison varsity baseball field.

Vu third at Phoenix golf tourney

Lilia Vu of Fountain Valley finished in third place June 10 at the PING Phoenix Junior conducted by the American Junior Golf Association. Vu had five birdies and three bogeys.

The tournament was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Moon Valley Country Club. Vu was one of 78 players from 11 states, Canada, Columbia and Switzerland, to compete for the title.

The Girls’ Division played the par-72 course at 6,373 yards.
