Owens earns top baseball honor

Edison pitcher Henry Owens was named Player of the Year for Division 1 on the 2011 All-CIF Southern Section Baseball Team, presented by the LA84 Foundation. The list was released Monday.

Owens heads the Division 1 team that includes fellow Edison seniors Christian Lopes (infielder) and Eric Snyder (outfielder). The Coach of the Year is Steve Madril of Division 1-champion JW North.

In Division 3, Ocean View’s Robert Fogerty made second team.

In softball, infielder Jamie Sullivan of Marina made the Division 1 first team and pitcher Sarah Craig of Ocean View was named to the first team Division 4.

Summer camp set to start

The Ocean View Seahawk Summer Basketball Camp starts Monday at the Ocean View gym. The camp runs from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday through July 14. There will be no camp session on July 4. Surf City Climbers earn top finishes

Four members of the Surf City Climbers competed June 10-12 at the USA Climbing Divisional Championships at the Movement Climbing and Fitness Center in Boulder, Colo.

Jessica Capalbo finished in second place in speed climbing and 10th in sport (difficulty) in the Female Youth C Division (ages 12-13). Sara Griffith was ninth in both speed and sport in the Female Youth B Division (ages 14-15). Nathan Withey was 11th in the Male B Division (14-15) and Ryan Withey placed 14th in the Male Youth A Division (16-17).

TCA offering summer volleyball training

The TCA Volleyball Club 17s and 18s girls’ teams, currently training at Liberty Christian School in Huntington Beach, have qualified for the upcoming US Junior National Championships in the Open Division to be held in Atlanta. The trip marks the eighth consecutive year that either a 17s and/or 18s team from TCA has qualified for the Open Division. TCA has medaled in five in of its previous eight appearances at Nationals.

Wolfpack boys’ U13 team seeks players

The Wolfpack Soccer boys’ Under-13 (fall 2011) soccer team is looking to add one or two more players to its roster. The team expects to play in the Silver Elite division in the fall. Interested players can contact Coach Glenn Strachan at GStrack@aol.com for more information.

Travel baseball tryouts are Sunday

Team Lifeletics Travel ball Club will hold open tryouts Sunday at the Fountain Valley High baseball field. Players in divisions 10- and 11-and-under will try out at 5 p.m. Players in divisions 12- and 14-and-under are at 6 p.m. Registration opens 30 minutes prior to each tryout. Team Lifeletics plays out of the Lifeletics Training Facility in Huntington Beach and the travel ball program is designed to prepare athletes for high school baseball. The Lifeletics Summer Baseball weekly camp is coming to Huntington Beach on Monday. Eight weeks of instruction will be offered through Aug. 15. The cost is $199 for a single week and $399 for two weeks, with a third week free of charge with the purchase of two weeks. An advanced camp will be held the final week of the summer schedule.
