Edison ice hockey team tryouts Thursday

Edison High is holding tryouts beginning at 7:10 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Ice for its ice hockey team. The Chargers will compete in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League offered through the Anaheim Junior Ducks, which is part of the Southern California Amateur Hockey Assn.

Edison, Huntington Beach, Servite, JSerra, Santa Margarita, Orange Lutheran, Damien, Bishop Amat/UC Academy and Long Beach Prep are members of the league. Westminster Ice is at 13071 Springdale St. in Westminster. For information on the tryout and high school league, call the Junior Ducks at (714) 535-7465.

HB Pop Warner Football sign-up is Saturday

Huntington Beach Pop Warner Football will hold sign-ups from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Edison High School fields and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Edison Community Center (21377 Magnolia St., Huntington Beach). Dave White Summer Football Clinics start Sunday

Edison High will host the annual Dave White Summer Football Clinics beginning Sunday . Other clinic dates are June 19, July 10, July 17 and July 24. Each clinic is two hours and is open to youth ages 5 to 16. Participants will be taught in the areas of speed, strength, agility and conditioning. A donation of $20 per participant will be given to Edison High sports.

Weinberg signs with Rascals

Aric Weinberg of Huntington Beach has signed a professional baseball contract with the River City Rascals (O’Fallon, Mo.) of the Frontier League, his father, Rick, said.

The 25-year-old, an outfielder/infielder and left-handed hitter who played at Marina High and Golden West College, played his first year of pro baseball in 2009 with the Alexandria Aces (Alexandria, La.) of the Continental Baseball League. He helped the Aces to the CBL championship and was the CBL’s starting left fielder in the league’s All-Star Game.

He led the Aces in runs batted in, batting average with runners in scoring position and walks, was third in home runs and runs and was among the team leaders in on-base percentage and slugging.

Weinberg had a hit and walk May 26 when the Rascals defeated the Gateway Grizzlies, 6-2. The Rascals, who are the reigning champions of the Frontier League, improved to 4-2.

Surfing America USA Championship dates set

The annual Surfing America USA Championships will be held June 18 and 19 at the Huntington Beach Pier and from June 21 to 25 at Lower Trestles at San Onofre State Beach.

The Huntington Beach event is for all preliminary rounds of competition for the following Adult and Longboard divisions: Men’s 18-29; Women’s 18+; Masters 30-39; Seniors 40-49; Legends 50+; Junior Longboard Under 18; Men’s Longboard 18 +; Senior Longboard 40+; Girls Longboard Under 18 and Women’s Longboard 18+.

Lifeletics baseball camp, travel team tryouts set

The Lifeletics Summer Baseball weekly camp is coming to Huntington Beach June 27. Eight weeks of instruction will be offered through Aug. 15. The cost is $199 for a single week and $399 for two weeks, with a third week free of charge with the purchase of two weeks. An advanced camp will be held the final week of the summer schedule. Team Lifeletics Travel ball Club will hold open tryouts June 26 at the Fountain Valley High baseball field. Players in divisions 10- and 11-and-under will try out at 5 p.m. Players in divisions 12- and 14-and-under are at 6 p.m.

Registration opens 30 minutes prior to each tryout. Team Lifeletics plays out of the Lifeletics Training Facility in Huntington Beach and the travel ball program is designed to prepare athletes for high school baseball.
