Pitching gets it done for Rockies

Share

The postseason playoffs began this past week for local District 62 Little League chapters (Fountain Valley, Huntington Valley, Ocean View, Robinwood, Seaview). Below are results reported by Ocean View Little League:

Majors Division

Rockies 3, Phillies 1: Rockies Coach Eric Ziegler told his team that their 3-1 victory over the Phillies Saturday in the first-round of the Ocean View Little League playoffs was a “gift from the baseball gods.” The gift, however, came from Rockies right-handed pitcher Justin Cianca, who dominated the Phillies by throwing four scoreless innings while striking out seven. Cianca got it done with the bat, as well, breaking a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth by roping a single that scored Brendan Wallace.

Minor B Division

Mets 9, Sea Dogs 8: The Mets and Sea Dogs went head-to-head May 19 in a battle that went to the end and was decided on a walk-off single in the bottom of the sixth inning by Sean Headley.

The Sea Dogs came up with big hits and were up six runs in the third inning. The Mets rallied in the bottom of the fourth. A single by Tristan Kennedy, who turned a double play on defense, and a couple of walks got the Mets back in the game. Headley, Lucas Pantel, Edison Chui and Danny Gallardo all scored.

Diamond Jaxx 14, Mets 5: It was do-or-die for the Mets Saturday when they went up against the Diamond Jaxx.

Danny Gallardo was first up to the mound for the Mets and didn’t allow a run in the first inning. Tristan Kennedy and Lucas Pantel were able to score in the bottom of the first to get the Mets on the board. But the Diamond Jaxx were ready to play and scored five runs in both the second and third innings to open up a 10-1 lead. Nicholas Skorheim and Edison Chiu both had RBIs for the Mets in the fourth inning.

Farm Division

(no score kept)

Sun Devils vs. Anteaters: In the final Farm matchup of the year, the Sun Devils and Anteaters squared off in a great game Saturday. Andrew Bentley had several nice hits and pitcher Sebastian Aparicio made a great catch for the Anteaters. For the Sun Devils, Roman Cianca pounded the ball with regularity, as did Kaelyn Arnold and Matt and Nick Severin. Cianca added a nice double play from third to first, as well. It was a great game for both teams and the players next year move from the Farm division to Minor C.
