Youth Scene: Reds roll past Orioles

The Reds took a first-inning lead on the Orioles and never looked back en route to a 7-1 Majors Division victory at Ocean View Little League.

A two-run single by Benjamin Davis in the opening inning put the Reds in the lead. They scored four more runs in the second on an RBI single by Gavin Kennedy and a three-run home run by Mason Stinson. It was the third home run of the season for Stinson.

The Reds added their final run in the fifth when Stinson scored on a sacrifice fly by Kennedy.

Williams, Lucas Catano and Kennedy combined for a shutout heading into the sixth when the Orioles scored on an RBI single by Cole Kennedy that plated Mason Lucero.

Hot Rods 7, Red Wings 3: Five Hot Rods pitchers teamed up on a two-hitter to help move their squad into first place in the division.

Gavin Kells got the Hot Rod offense off to a quick start, as his two-run double was the key blow in a five-run first inning for the hosts. Micah Kennedy went two for three and scored twice for the winners. The Hot Rods (7-1 in league games) took over first place when the Stars dropped their first game Sunday.

The Red Wings mounted a rally in the final inning, drawing four straight walks after a leadoff single, but A.J. Hurtado struck out three straight batters with the bases loaded to preserve the win.

Red Wings 10, Express 7: Prior to taking on the Hot Rods, the Red Wings mounted a 12-hit attack against the Express and snapped a five-game skid.

Leadoff hitter Daniel Kotkosky went two for three, scored two runs and knocked in two more to lead the offense. Aiden Daniels went three for three and scored twice. Alec Muirhead had two hits and scored twice, and Angel Zamora added a pair of RBIs.

The Express mounted a rally in the fifth, drawing five straight walks and capping the rally with a three-run double from Kai Mullens to close the gap to 10-6.

Bats 10, Rivercats 6: Lucas Flynn smashed a bases-loaded triple in the top of the seventh to snap a 6-6 tie and lift the Bats to the extra-innings victory.

The Bats (4-3-1, 7-8-1 overall) had filled the bases on walks to Dylan Uerling, Jake D’Amico and David Drigla before Flynn lined the ball past third base. Samuel Mejia gave the Bats a four-run cushion with an RBI groundout.

D’Amico pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief to get the win. Nick Shenkman (two for three, double, two RBIs) and William Brooks (two for three, two RBIs) sparked the Bats’ offense.

The Rivercats rallied from a 6-1 deficit, tying the score on back-to-back RBI singles by Michael Rubly and Micah Blake in the fifth. Rubly earlier hit a run-scoring triple and Jack Jernigan lined a two-run single in the fourth to make it 6-4.

Reliever Porter Reynolds held the Bats scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
