Orioles earn a pair of victories

The Orioles earned two victories in Ocean View Little League action last week by knocking off the Giants and Rangers.

Big hits by Dash Hill, Brad Monroe and KJ Long gave the Orioles two early runs, but they had to rally to defeat the Giants, 5-4, on April 25. Hill tripled, Monroe homered and Long also tripled, which led to their first two runs.

The Orioles previously scored an 8-4 win over the Rangers. Long had two RBI singles, Seth Knorr had a run-scoring single and Jake Volo had a two-run double and two-run, inside-the-park home run.

The Rangers scored their four runs in the fourth behind a double by Ian Cook, single by Danny Smith and a double by Hunter Baclig.

Minor A Division

Muds Hens 5, Express 4: A walk-off double by Paul Crocker in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted the Mud Hens past the Express on Friday.

Mud Hens 8, River Cats 3: The Mud Hens blew the game open in the fifth inning by scoring five runs and went on to defeat the River Cats.

Kyle Roeder doubled and Chance DiMarco pick up a run batted in to give the Mud Hens a 2-0 lead in the first. Pitcher Jag Burden struck out four over the first two innings to protect the lead, but the River Cats got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Ryan Carles, and then scored the tying run in the bottom of the fourth.

A five-run fifth, which included a two-run double by Zander Fletcher, broke the tie and gave the Mud Hens a 7-2 lead.

Minor B Division

Lookouts 14, Thunder 10: A.J. Hurtado of the Lookouts couldn’t have scripted a better finish. The 8-year-old clean-up hitter crushed a towering fly ball over the center-field fence for a walk-off grand slam with one out in the fifth inning, giving the Lookouts their 10th win in their last 11 games.

The Thunder had rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth for a 10-8 lead. But the Lookouts responded with six runs in their final at-bat.

Minor C Division

Bees vs. Iron Birds: Jacob George and Roman Cianca led the Iron Birds with several booming hits in this clash between two titans of Minor C.

For the Bees, Kyle Palmer and Kyle Donoho led the attack, both hitting RBI doubles in the first inning and playing outstanding games. Kaden Chase and Jaylene Duarte pitched well for the Bees. After the game, Donoho was named Sportsman of the Year for the Bees.

Fountain Valley Little LeagueMajors Division

Angels 3, Twins 2: This game decided the first-half winner in the division.

The Twins opened the scoring in the top of the first when Jake Bitzer was hit by a pitch, stole two bases and scored on an RBI single by Tanner Motske, who later scored on a single by Luke Arnold. Motske and Bitzer combined to strike out seven with one walk and six hits.

Mark Madrid had a triple and scored, and Nick Rakowski had an RBI single for the Angels.

Twins 5, Dirtbags 4: Tanner Motske’s game-winning hit into right field in the fifth inning scored Carson Letterman as Fountain Valley edged Costa Mesa National at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa.

Indians 14, Twins 4: The Costa Mesa American Indians earned a mercy-rule victory against the Fountain Valley Twins.

The Indians’ first five batters had nine hits and scored 13 runs in the game. The Twin’s Jake Bitzer led off the game with a double and Luke Arnold drove Bitzer in. The Twins added two runs in the second on hits by Luke Bundesen and Grant Mixer.

Red Sox 5, Twins 4: The Fountain Valley Red Sox rallied for three runs during the final two innings to knock off the Fountain Valley Twins at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley.

The Red Sox scored twice in the fifth and scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Grant Thompson, Barnes and Caleb Holbrook combined for eight strikeouts and walked four.

Luke Logan had two hits for the Twins. Luke Bundesen, Motske and Luke Wells had a combined 10 strikeouts and walked four.
