Orioles edge Angels in final at bat

In a back-and-forth Majors Division game, the Orioles scored the winning run in the sixth inning to pull out a 5-4 victory over the Angels in Ocean View Little League action.

The Angels pulled into a 4-4 tie after Jacob Hathcock scored, but Nick Daniel doubled and went on to score the decisive run for the Orioles.

The Orioles were up early, 1-0, but the Angels used singles by Jack Pelc, Ken Takada, Chandler Forth and Matt Maloney to build a 3-1 lead. The Orioles tied the score in the third inning behind singles by Danny Duarte, Jacob Bonillas and Brad Monroe, then took the lead in the fourth on a single by Ryan Welander, who went on to score on a triple by Kyle Newman.

Eli Blake closed on the mound for the Orioles and struck out two of three to end the game.

Minor A Division

River Cats 9, Express 5: The game featured five lead changes but the River Cats rode a strong third inning to victory.

The River Cats went up for good on a run-scoring single by Vincent Caiazzo that scored Dominic Ventimiglia. Caiazzo went three for three and the River Cats used four relief pitchers. Ventimiglia faced five batters in relief and Micah Blake recorded three outs to aid the victory.

The River Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. A single by Caiazzo started the inning, Blake later scored and Caiazzo scored on a run-scoring single by Paul Wagner. Express scored three runs in its first at-bat and scored single runs in the third and fifth innings.

The River Cats scored three times in the fourth, where Ivan Soto’s sacrifice fly scored a run and Ventimiglia had a run-scoring double.

Mud Hens 14, Red Wings 0: Pitchers Jag Burden, Kyle Roeder, Thomas Williams and Chance DiMarco combined on a shutout for the Mud Hens, who took an 8-0 lead into the sixth inning. Singles by Bruno Stenzel, Zander Fletcher, Roeder, DiMarco, Burden and Nick Skorheim helped the Mud Hens to victory.
