Edison won the girls’ competition with 752 points. Dos Pueblos was next at 623 points.

In boys’ action, Edison (522 points) finished third behind Damien (548) and Crescenta Valley (539). Key swims turned in by the Chargers included: Princeton-bound Michael Hauss (1:41.55, county leader) in the 200 free; junior Brent Bazzell (22.43) was fifth, senior Brian Ely (22.77( was seventh) and senior Brett Maus (22.90) was ninth and all three were finalists in the 50 free; Hauss was third (47.42) and Bazzell seventh (48.69) in the 100 free, and junior Tony Morelli was fifth (4:48.93) in the 500 free.

“We went into this invitational knowing two things,” Edison Coach Diggy Riley explained. “One, that the pool was fast and two, that we did not rest up for this meet so we had no idea what our times would look like. For our athletes to swim as fast as they did really caught us off-guard, in a very good way. Our swimmers are tired, broken down and unrested, which made these times that much more impressive.

“We still have a huge three weeks in front of us as we prepare for league and most importantly, CIF. We are going to train as hard as ever over spring break and ready ourselves for our final league duel meet against Marina next week. It is going to be one exciting month as we lead up to CIF at Belmont, our favorite place to swim.”

Marina knocked off three Sunset League opponents last week to run their league record to 6-2, one game behind league-leading Los Alamitos (7-1).

During the week, the Vikings knocked off Newport Harbor, 170-192, and handed Los Alamitos its first loss, 182-188, in matches played at Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach, and defeated host Fountain Valley, 181-191, at Mile Square Park. Marina Coach Jim Morris said the 170 score against Newport Harbor was a school-record five-under par. The 181 score at Fountain Valley was one-over par.

Marina senior Kyle Frame was medalist in all three victories, sharing the honor twice with senior teammate Andrew Shoup. The two each shot two-under par 33 against Newport Harbor and one-under par 24 against Los Alamitos. Frame medaled with a two-under par 34 against Fountain Valley (Shoup had a one-over par 37).

Frame and Shoup both were on the Marina team two years ago that won the CIF Central Division championship.
