Twins can’t hold on against Tigers

A battle between undefeated Majors Division teams came down to the final inning Saturday, and it was the Costa Mesa National Tigers who emerged with a 13-9 victory over the Fountain Valley Twins in Fountain Valley Little League action at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley.

Jake Bitzer hit the first Tigers pitch over the center-field fence for a home run and led the Twins’ attack with a double, walk and three runs scored. Luke Wells went two for three, Luke Arnold had two runs batted in and Luke Logan had a two-run double.

Six Twins scored in the third inning to give Fountain Valley a 7-6 lead, but Costa Mesa National roared back to score seven runs over the last three innings. The Tigers’ Nick Mazur hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the sixth.

Minor A Division

Mud Hens 12, Iron Pigs 10: The Mud Hens used a strong start to open up a big lead and then held off a rally by the Iron Pigs. The Mud Hens used singles by Chance DiMarco, Paul Crocker and Reilly Kells, a double by Zack Pratte and hits by Bruno Stenzel, Zander Fletcher and Jag Burden to open up a 6-1 lead. The Iron Pigs rallied for five runs in the fourth inning, but the Mud Hens pulled out the win.

Mud Hens 5, Stars 0: Jag Burden struck out seven and Chance DiMarco fanned five batters as the Mud Hens shut out the Stars to win their fourth straight game. Zander Fletcher, Kyle Roeder and Thomas Williams had big hits for the Mud Hens and shortstop Nate Skorheim made a key stop defensively to end a bases-loaded threat by the Stars in the top of the fifth inning.

River Cats 13, Stars 4: The River Cats overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Stars. A line drive RBI by Paul Wagner that scored Micah Blake in the bottom of the third inning broke a tie score and led to a 7-3 lead by the River Cats.
