Youth Scene: Reds hold off Rockies in OVLL

The Reds withstood a late charge by the Rockies Sunday and held on for a 5-4 victory in a Majors Division game at Ocean View Little League.

Justin Robinson had a run-scoring double in the sixth innings for the Rockies whose rally fell short. The Rockies had scored their previous run on an error in the fifth.

For the Reds, Ben Davis’ double drove in two runs and Dominic Ventimiglia’s single brought in a run.

Solid pitching by Reds’ Daniel Williams and Gavin Kennedy, and Rockies’ Cobie Donovan kept the score tight.

Red Wings 13, Stormchasers 2: Nick Dagarin threw three strong innings and drove in four runs as the Red Wings (4-5, 1-0) won their regular-season opener.

Dagarin and Alec Muirhead combined on a five-hitter and struck out eight, allowing just one unearned run in the process. On the offensive side for the Red Wings, Jeremy Roe went three for three to pace a 12-hit attack. Dagarin, Muirhead (two hits, three runs batted in) and Daniel Kotkosky (two hits) each scored three times. Muirhead had the key blow, a two-run double in the fourth inning that have the Wings an 8-1 lead.

Matthew Wilson went three for three and scored twice for the Stormchasers (3-6, 0-1).

Iron Pigs 10, Bulls 2: Owen Wessel hit his first home run of the season and the Iron Pigs scored the first nine runs of the game in defeating the Bulls Sunday.

Wessel’s home run in the fourth inning gave the Iron Pigs a 9-0 lead. J.C. Cargasacchi had two RBIs and Lucas Pantel, Nick Skorheim, Mikey Caira and Keith Pouliot also had key at-bats for the Iron Pigs.

Nate Skorheim got the pitching win and Mikey Pantel and Isaac Ballinas had key played on defense.

Samuel Myers had an RBI double for the Bulls.

Muckdogs 4, Bats 3: Riley Reece scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Muckdogs to a one-one victory Saturday.

Veteran pitchers, Kai Marden for the Muckdogs and Jake D’Amico for the Bats, took the mound. The score was tied, 1-1, in the bottom of the third with both pitchers having multiple strikeouts under their belts. The Bats scored two runs in the fourth. William Brooks hit a solo home run and David Drigla singled and came around to score.

The Muckdogs tied the score (3-3) in their half of the fourth on a double by Parker Walpole and key RBIs by Branden Dompke and Cade Hart.

Iron Pigs 14, River Cats 11: A double in the bottom of the fifth inning by Nate Skorheim helped propel the Iron Pigs, who outlasted the River Cats.

The River Cats scored three runs in the opening inning. In the second innings, RBIs by J.C. Cargasacchi put the Iron Pigs on the scoreboard. RBIs by Druce Faleanfine and Owen Wessel aided the Iron Pigs who trailed, 6-5. A double by Joe Moore of the Iron Pigs tied the score.
