Seven locals selected for All-Star contests

Seven local basketball players will take the court Saturday at Concordia University in Irvine for the 46th Orange County All-Star Basketball Games. The annual event pits senior players from north and south county schools in three games: boys’, girls’ and small schools. The small schools game is at noon, the girls’ contest is at 5 p.m. and the boys’ game follows at 7 p.m.

The seven, all playing for their respective south squads, are: Daniel Healy and Riley Thomas of Brethren Christian, Christina Marquette and Dylan Garrity of Edison, Sasha Mancisidor of Huntington Beach, Alyssa Kinoshita of Marina and Billy Keller of Ocean View.

Jr. All-American signups are Sunday

Huntington Beach Jr. All American Football and Cheer will hold in-person registration from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Sports Chalet (16242 Beach Blvd., Huntington Beach). Registration is open to youth ages 5 and 6 for the flag football division, 7 to 14 for all tackle football divisions and 4 to 14 for the cheer program. Wolfpack Soccer signups start Sunday

Wolfpack Soccer Club will hold tryouts for its boys’ Under-13 team (fall 2011) at 3 p.m.Sunday at Fountain Valley High (back field located in rear of school) and again at 6 p.m. April 21 at Edison High.

Swim program starts Tuesday at Edison

Edison co-head swim coach Diggy Riley will head a swim program for middle school-age youth starting Tuesday at the Edison High pool. The program, in its second year, emphasizes stroke work and endurance in workouts that mirror those of the Edison swim program and present local youth the opportunity to train with one of the top swim and water polo coaches in Orange County. Baseball clinic debuts Tuesday

The Lifeletics Spring Break Clinic, a three-day instructional baseball clinic that combines defensive, offensive and speed/strength/agility training, runs Tuesday through April 21 at Wardlow Park (home of Huntington Valley Little League) in Huntington Beach.
