Seahawks grab Golden West, CIF honors

A combined 14 Ocean View athletes from girls’ water polo and boys’ and girls’ soccer have been named All-Golden West League.

Senior Jaylin McCandless and freshman Alyssa Isogawa were first team selections and senior Shavonne Abella and sophomore Cameryn McNabb made second team for girls’ water polo.

In boys’ soccer, junior Joel Contreras was named the league’s offensive Most Valuable Player, senior Oscar Candelario made first team and seniors Nathan Sapia and Erik Sanchez both were second team.

In girls’ soccer, senior Mikhaila Bowden was named league offensive MVP, seniors Kaitlin Katsuki and Kara Pedersen an junior Aleanna Vargas all made first team and senior Raquel Thomas and junior Kelley Dooley were second team.

Bowden, Katsuki, Pedersen and Vargas also were named All-CIF in girls’ soccer, Ocean View Athletic Director Tim Walsh said.

Locals still lead CIF polls

The Ocean View softball and Edison baseball teams continued to lead their respective divisions in this week’s CIF Southern Section spring sports polls.

Ocean View is the top-rated team in Division 4 softball poll and Edison No. 1 in the Division 1 baseball poll. Other teams to be ranked this week include Marina at No. 10 in the boys’ tennis Division 1 poll and Huntington Beach is 10th in the boys’ volleyball Division 1 rankings.
