Ocean View’s Small named league MVP

Share

On a team, and league, full of talented players, Ocean View High’s Kendall Small found a way to steal the spotlight, so to speak.

The sophomore guard, who damaged the opposition through several ways on the court, has been named the Most Valuable Player on the 2012-13 All-Golden West League boys’ basketball team.

Small heads a team that includes four of his Ocean View teammates: senior Josh Mishler, juniors Dillon Reise and Jelani Jackson, and fellow sophomore, Tyler Burch.

Small averaged 20.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.6 steals, and three assists per game. He established a new school record for steals in a season with 143.

“Kendall had a sensational season for us,” Ocean View Coach Tim Walsh said. “His teammates fed off his energy, and he did so many things on both ends of the floor to make us a better basketball team. When the competition was tougher, he stepped up and made big plays.

“He’s a great kid who has worked hard to get where he is at, and I’m very proud of him. And he’s only going to get better.”
