Padres Edge Yankees The Seaview Little League Majors Division game between the Yankees and Padres on April 28 was a pitching duel. The Yankees’ Adam Cavecche, Jake Froehle and Jack Andros, as well as the Padres hurlers Nolyn Jacobs, Zac Ciulei and Jacob Price, kept the game scoreless into the ninth.

But the Padres’ Tanner Hord singled, then stole second, third and ultimately home as the Padres earned a 1-0 walk-off victory. The Padres are now in first place.

Robinwood Minor A Division Pirates 10, Yankees 2: Yankees pitcher Drey Despot and Pirates pitcher Seth Hoetker kept the score low, as it was tied 1-1 after two innings.

But Hoetker later hit a two-run home run in the third inning, when the Pirates scored five runs. Hoetker now has five homers in his last five games.

Connor O’Brien made an unassisted double play at third base in the fourth for the Pirates.

Hoetker gave up one run in 3 2/3 innings. Cade Palma came in for the Pirates with the bases loaded and got out of the jam, with a strikeout. Hoetker went three for three and Bryan Robinson scored twice.

Angels 15, White Sox 11: The Angels’ first-year player Nolan Arotcharen hit his first home run, a grand slam in the second inning. He also had a double and went three for four.

White Sox pitcher Troy Kent struck out the side in the third. Brett Rudy hit two home runs for the White Sox. Colin Fathauer and Kevin Arent both hit a double to help the Angels regain the lead.

Fathauer struck out eight in 2 2/3 innings and Chance Sommerville added 12 strikeouts in five innings for the Angels. Brandon Vacarro, Kale Noble, Noland Andersen, Cody Griffith and Blaine Rierderich of the Angels all contributed with clutch singles and doubles.

Minor B Division Mariners 9, Angels 8: Jared Ramirez hit a walk-off single to score Timothy Davert from third in the Mariners’ win. Mariners pitchers Brayden Gratzer, Ramirez and Jonathan Lake combined to strike out 10 Angels, with no walks, keeping the game close.

Ocean View Majors Division Dodgers 8, Yankees 2: Braydon Salzman went three for three with a double. Hunter Jackson drove in two runs in the first, including Salzman and Nick Pratto, who reached on a walk.

Nick Pratto hit a home run, Ryan Hernandez produced a triple and Adam Tajudin had an RBI single. Salzman pitched four shutout innings and Pratto closed in the sixth, retiring the Yankees in order.

Dodgers 2, Red Sox 1: Jackson of the Dodgers and Michael Gates of the Red Sox faced off Saturday afternoon in a pitchers’ duel. In the fourth, Salzman led off for the Dodgers with a double to center. After getting to third on a passed ball, Jackson batted in Salzman with an RBI single. Jackson and Gates both pitched complete games and with no further runs scored.

Minor A Division Bats 4, Knights 1: The Bats’ Jason St. Pierre pitched all six innings for the win. Grant Brehm and Danny Smith also pitched well for the Knights. St. Pierre broke up a scoreless game with an RBI single, while Brandon Windisch drove in two runs.

Nick Deleske provided several key outs at shortstop. Kenton Oliver contributed to the Bats defense with outs at second base. Nick Daniels had two great plays from third base and threw out another Knight at second base from left field. Windisch dug out several throws at first and caught a line drive, and Noah Hickman did an excellent job at catcher for all six innings.

The Knights scored one run in the fifth after a big hit by Danny Smith. Both teams played outstanding defense with an exceptional play from Bats third baseman Austin Meyer.

Minor B Division Hooks 18, Naturals 7: Tyler Overton led the Hooks to victory, pitching two innings and striking out four batters. He added offense, too, with a timely single. Joey Legg, Evan Gates, and Mauro Ballinas also had key hits. Gates closed out the game with five strikeouts of his own.

The Naturals had great pitching led by Joel Kosareff, Antonio Caico and Zach Lyons, who combined for eight punch-outs. Lyons and Luke Adelman added hits.

Minor C Division Threshers vs. Scrappers: Tristan Kennedy was first to pitch for the Threshers and threw three strikeouts in a row, in both the first and second innings. Alec Muirhead was next and had five strikeouts in innings three and four, and a little help from Jimmy Campbell, who caught a force-out at 2nd base.

Samuel Mejia threw three strikeouts of his own in the fifth. On offense, Porter Reynolds had a double and single, Hunter Smith hit a single and had two RBIs, Campbell had two singles and an RBI, Kennedy had two singles and an RBI and Joseph Vardayo had a single.

Farm Division Trojans vs. Dirtbags: Thee Ocean View Little League’s Farm Field experienced something that rarely happens even in the major leagues — an unassisted triple play. In the Farm League game between the Trojans and the Dirtbags on April 28, the Dirtbags had the bases loaded when a line drive was hit to Trojans shortstop James Kormanik. “Jammin’ James” caught the line drive, tagged second base to double up the runner who started on second, then tagged the runner who ran from first.
