It’ll be an action-packed sporting event weekend at the Huntington Beach Pier.

Beginning Friday, the Body Glove United States Bodyboard Assn. U.S. Open of Bodyboarding Tour presents the Sports Chalet U.S. Open of Bodyboarding competition. The event runs through Sunday at the pier.

The event is being held simultaneously with the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Huntington Beach Open.

Guilherme Tamega, Mike Stewart and current world champ Jeff Hubbard are schedule to attend. Current USA Champion Luz Marie Grande and two-time U.S. champion Roberta Bitzer have committed to the women’s competition, as have former world champions Karla Costa Taylor and Claudia Ferrari. Nick Arant, an amateur rider from Huntington Beach, is also among the list of entrants in the competition.

O.C. All-Star volleyball games are Friday

Newport Harbor High hosts the 2010 Orange County All-Star Volleyball matches Friday.

The girls’ contest is set to start at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ match at 7:30 p.m.

In the girls’ match, locals playing for the North are outside hitter Allison McCoy and opposite Taylor Knox of Edison, and outside hitter Kellie Turner and middle Haileigh Hampton of Huntington Beach.

Local players on the North squad in the boys’ contest are opposite Torey Darin and middle Ryan Smith of Edison, and middle Tyler Kulakowski, opposite Nick Siegle and outside hitter Nick Iorfino of Huntington Beach.

H.B. water polo club summer session set

Huntington Beach Water Polo Club is taking registration for its summer water polo club session. Instruction is open to beginning through advanced players. Age divisions include: 10-and-under coed team; 12U girls and 12U boys; 14U girls and 14U boys; 16U girls and 16U boys, and 18U girls and 18U boys.

The age-group players will participate in scrimmages and games against other youth water polo clubs during the summer session. Oilers football golf benefit is June 21

The Huntington Beach High football boosters will hold a golf benefit for the program June 21 at SeaCliff Country Club. Registration for the four-man scramble begins at 11 a.m and tee-off is 12:30 p.m.

Entry fee is $150 and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, dinner and the chance to win prizes. Awards will be given out in the following categories: Putting Challenge, Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin (on all par 3’s), Chip’n Challenge and Hole-in-One Shootout. Golf attire is required.
