Mailbag: Suing over rave isn’t smart

Share

Regarding Huntington Beach’s plan to sue over the planned rave, would it not be more sensible to simply demand that the state provide adequate protection for our residents and property? Isn’t this what the Orange County Sheriff’s Department has authority to do?

Given recent history, it is understandable that folks are fearful of any event that could lead to repeat activities. However, unless Huntington Beach can cite specific state statute that says cities have jurisdiction over specified activities within California parks, a lawsuit would be frivolous and costly.

One hopes that approval of a nonsense lawsuit is not politically motivated because if it is, we must take a closer look at our elected officials who would waste taxpayer dollars rather than take thoughtful and meaningful actions.
