The Huntington Beach Police Department arrested a man Sunday after a foot chase through several backyards, according to Lt. Gary Faust.

Police located Jeffery Farnell, 24, of Murrieta after searching for about an hour and a half and arrested him on suspicion of resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer. Officials said he also has three outstanding warrants.

At 11 p.m. an officer spotted Farnell and suspected that he had just broken into a vehicle parked at Indianapolis Avenue and Alabama Street.

When the officer stopped to investigate, the suspect started to run. The suspect “jumped several walls and ran through several residential backyards” before eluding the officer, a post on the department’s Facebook page said.

About a dozen HBPD officers set up a perimeter, and the police helicopter and a police canine assisted in the search, Faust said.

During the search, officers learned the suspect’s name and determined that he had not broken into the vehicle but linked him to one traffic- and two drug-related warrants.

The suspect was found hiding in a house in the 100 block of Indianapolis Avenue and was taken into custody without incident, the post said.
