Westminster School District names new superintendent

The Westminster School District board of trustees approved Marian Kim-Phelps as the new superintendent Thursday night, according to a news release.

Kim-Phelps started her tenure as superintendent Monday. She was previously an area superintendent with the San Diego Unified School District.

“I am honored to have been selected as the new superintendent and look forward to being part of a high quality team and district,” Kim-Phelps said in the release. “I am committed to ensuring that our children not only have the skills necessary to be college- and career-ready, but have the skills needed to be successful in life.”

She has been an educator for 23 years, having served as an elementary and middle school teacher, a vice principal and an elementary school principal.

The Westminster School District educates 10,000 students at 17 schools in Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Midway City and Westminster.
