Huntington Beach police and SWAT responded Monday to a report that a man had barricaded himself in his home with a rifle while issuing threats, according to authorities.

Bryan McLeod, 33, of Huntington Beach was taken into custody on suspicion of participating in a residential burglary, making criminal threats and delaying a police officer, Lt. Mitch O’Brien wrote in an email.

The incident started around 6 p.m. Monday in the 8200 block of San Angelo Drive and ended about four hours later after the SWAT team and crisis negotiators talked the suspect into surrendering, O’Brien wrote.

McLeod reportedly was involved in a dispute with a neighbor and kicked in the door of the person’s apartment. The suspect subsequently barricaded himself in his residence, O’Brien wrote.

Police said McLeod claimed to be armed and threatened to shoot officers who tried to arrest him.

Upon arrest, police found “several loaded weapons” in the suspect’s home. Police are investigating the cause of the initial dispute.

According to Orange County Superior Court records, McLeod was arrested July 5 on suspicion of battery, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty to those charges Sept. 18.
