H.B. man reported missing while hunting

Authorities are searching for a Huntington Beach man who disappeared from a New Mexico campground Sunday.

Steve Lockhart, 43, got separated from his hunting party in Pueblo Creek Campground in New Mexico’s Gila National Forest, New Mexico State Police Sgt. Emmanuel Gutierrez said.

Lockhart was last seen at midnight on Sunday, and he was reported missing about 11 hours later, Gutierrez said.

Close to a dozen people from New Mexico Search and Rescue are looking for Lockhart with help from an aircraft above, police said.

Asked to describe the area where Lockhart disappeared, Gutierrez said, “It is mountainous rugged terrain, high peaks and drop-offs, heavily wooded forests, and getting very cold at night already.”
