Wet Electric event denied alcohol permit

Alcohol will not be served at Saturday’s Wet Electric event at Huntington State Beach, according to a state official.

California Alcoholic Beverage Control spokesman John Carr said the music festival was denied a permit to sell alcohol because it posed a safety threat to the public.

“The alcohol service plan that was submitted, along with not enough time to coordinate all effective allied law enforcement in the area created public safety concerns,” he said. “We determined that we would deny the application for sales of alcohol.”

On Wednesday, the city of Huntington Beach failed to acquire a temporary restraining order to prevent the event from happening, but Mayor Connie Boardman said Friday that the ABC’s action was “the right decision.”

“I’m very happy that the ABC board took our concerns seriously and denied the permit,” she said.

Huntington Beach police will be monitoring the beach for people that bring their own alcohol to the event, Boardman said..

Premiere Media Group President Steve Thacher was not available for comment Friday.
