Seal Beach has a winner of its centennial logo contest.
A panel of community members picked the design created by Christy Smith, a graphic designer for Sun Newspapers in Seal Beach, according to Assistant City Manager Patrick Gallegos. She was chosen from among 43 contestants.
The city will use the logo for various events next year as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of its incorporation in October 1915. Gallegos said a committee is organizing the festivities.
Smith's image incorporates a seal, the city's pier, waves and a surfboard.
"I kind of wanted to keep it simple," said Smith, 40. "I kept trying to add to it, but I just kept it simple."
Smith also designed the logo for this year's Seal Beach Classic Car Show in April.
